the king is dead, long live the fool

Jerry Falwell is at it again.

Why, oh why must we take people like this seriously? Isn’t there some sort of legal challenge that can be brought against this type of activity? Isn’t it illegal to enforce a religious test upon public officials? Yes, I know, it is illegal for the government to do it. How do we get this guy to go away?

I want my country back.

  1. First of all, it’s important to remember that this is largely about lining the pockets of Falwell and his loyalists. They will raise lots of money from people who can ill afford it. And Falwell is far less slick than people like Ralph Reed– Falwell will always be a “televangelist” and looks and smells like one. So I fear him less than I fear some. But yeah, what an idiot. The sound you hear is the sound of Republican overreaching. When that pendulum swings back, it’s gonna hurt.

And one more thing: what’s with this business of the wingnuts pretending this is their first foray into politics? We’ve been paying obeisance to their BS for too long… we need to call bullshit on them early and often.

  2. So my new morning ritual is to watch some of the 700 Club. I figure it is best to know thy enemy. Not only do they preach and give lessons on the Supreme Court, but yesterday I got to see them market their diet plan! Yes, diet plan. Watchers have ceded all decision-making powers to these people. I grew up in a pretty religious house, but it wasn’t the type of religion where your minister told you what to do to lose weight! Things have really changed…
