It’s time to invest… in burritos and tacos. Gourmet burritos and tacos are going to be the first big IPO of 2006. I have reliable information from my insider that Chipotle is very, very near it’s IPO (as proof by yahoo! finance). I’ve been hearing this for about a year now but it’s finally about to happen. It’s my opinion (so not to get anyone in trouble) that the shares will start around the $22 to $25 dollar range and will be available in the next few weeks. Employees bought stock this week for a discount which mean the IPO isn’t far behind.
If you don’t know what Chipotle is… you must live in Oklahoma. I’m addicted. I make the 5 hour round trip drive from OKC to the nearest Chipotle in DFW at least 2 times a month. So I pay about $56 dollars for a burrito. But my mouth and my tummy love me for it.
note: 01-26-06 – in the few days since i wrote this, CNBC reports the estimated value has jumped from the $20 – $25 mark to the $35 to $40 mark. The IPO is happening in about an hour… 10:15. I’m so excited.
We have Chipotle here. We also have Qdoba and Baja Fresh and for my mexi-so-cal upbringing I say Baja Fresh wins hands down.
This is why you need to come and visit – we’ll go to Nordstrom and then we can go to Baja Fresh and then a side trip for some WA wine tasting. We could accomplish all of this in an afternoon with time to go clubbing downtown the same night.
Having lived in Spokane, WA for two years, I feel your pain. (We would drive all day to get to a Cheesecake Factory — sad, I know.) But trust me, spend your money on a moving van and get away from where you have to drive 2 hours to get to a Chipotle. I live near one and have never been…because there are so many other places to eat in between!
you don’t understand how much i love burritos. seriously, it’s my most favorite food. but i love all foods so i’ll go ahead and move if you promise that i can find biscuits and gravy in WA. which one of you is going to let me move in and support me until i find a job?
and terri, no trips to seattle scheduled just yet… but it’s only the 22nd day of the year.

“Chipotle Stock More Than Doubles in Debut” is the title of a story that the AP is reporting.

they upped their value last night to meet my estimated pricing of $22 dollars. i have no doubt that my post influenced the market today and that my enthusiasm is the reason people doubled their money. of course in my case, doubling the value of my 2 shares won’t do me any good ;0)
ps. gary, i had that problem too when i first started trying to comment to this site. i found out that i have to login to the site, then comment or it thinks i’m a spammer. so now i can’t be an anonymous coward
Well, congrats on the $44 close, today. Although, I must admit that I was a lot disappointed to find out that McDonalds is the single largest shareholder because they decided to spin Chipotle off as a “gimme” to pressure from Wall St hedge funds. I find it really hard to feel good about this place now that I know McDonalds profits from Chipotles good food.
