Harriet Miers hackfest

Legal qualification? Scant. Loyalist hackery? Plenty!

Hello, this is Harriet Miers. I am Deputy Chief of Staff for Policy at the White House, and I am delighted to be here to answer your questions this Friday afternoon.

What follows, at the link above, is a display of Bush apologism that will make any thinking personl retch. Even some of the wingers are unhappy. To the mattresses, friends!

  1. There seems to be a lot of news coverage of how Miers is not the hardcore right-wing thinker that the right wanted, and I’m concerned that Democrats seems relatively positive about her simply because she is not obviously evil.
Today’s Open Source has several right-wing bloggers talking about how bad this is for them: all those years of work to get the court packed with right-wingers (primarily to be certain of overturning Roe v. Wade) down the drain because their president chose one of his friends. (If Bush’s choosing really is as simple and silly as they seem to think it is, then I say, you are reaping what you’ve sown by putting the party boy in power.)

But we really have very little idea about Miers’s character, and I hope the Democrats give her the same sort of testing as if she was a definite ideologue. Anything less is gambling that there won’t be a reason to wish that one had made more of a fuss.
