This summer’s hot fashion on Florida beaches: the bulletproof bikini

In Florida, the legislature has approved a new law that
gives residents the right to open fire against anyone they perceive as a threat in public
. Jeb Bush says he’ll sign the law. So be careful next time you’re in Orlando or down on the Keys. Be careful how you look at anyone, and be especially careful not to be perceived as a threat, or they can legally shoot you there. Or just wear your bulletproof vest to the beach.

  1. Oooh, there is just too much here… I am just giggling at the thought of what would or could be construed as threatening behavior.

People blocking access to a convalescent facility or family planning clinic?

    Ugly people in thongs?

This is too much like a plot in a Carl Hiaasen or Elmore Leonard novel. I can’t wait to read what Dave Barry will have to say about this.

  2. In The Week this week, there’s a note about that law in Florida and about a man killing another at a taxi stand in Tokyo "pre-emptively" because he felt threatened. The killer said the victim gave him a dirty look, and he stabbed him. (I haven’t been able to find an on-line report of this English yet.)

  3. Apparently now we’re all allowed to pull a Travis “Are you lookin’ at a me? You want a piece of me?” Bickle fit any time we want to!
