Ok, I lied

I had to post about this one. On the front page of Bush's campaign site, he has an ad that is so perverted and disgusting. My blood is boiling. He's showing a bunch of lefties, from Gore to Moore to Kerry, talking about the awful things Bush has done leading us into war, with a little chronological and geopgraphical detour to Hitler giving an equally angry speech. I guess he figures that anyone dumb enough to vote for him will buy into the parallels he's trying to draw here, but this, this takes a lot of cakes. There are not words to describe the baseness and tactlessness of our president. Whoever said he was the anti-christ on this board the other day, was most likely correct.

What is SO twisted here is that they replay so much of a MoveOn.org ad. (Evil but not surprising how they used the comparison to Bush to Hitler to match stylistically the outraged oration of various democrats; I wished at the time MoveOn had not stepped on the "Hitler third rail.")

They must have tested this extensively, which scares me, but you have to remember this is an ad for the base (read: people for whom Al Gore and Howard Dean are quite literally more frightening than Hitler). In other words, it is an ad designed for people who will explicitly decode it as reinforcing their choice of Bush. But I can't believe that even people who crave "optimism and steady leadership" could view the ad without being made uneasy about the depth of rage that Bush creates. That would seem to be the real risk of what I would call a "meta-negative ad." In the pastiche of anger at Bush, his happy demeanor is not what comes out.

It's funny! I was laughing out loud. They devote almost the whole ad to showing some great clips of people that I love at their best and then wrap-up with little wimpy Bush playing all nice. Mr. Top Gun now has to play church mouse! OOH those bad men are saying bad things about Georgie!

More still, from John Moltz's great blog"

Mmm, so this is what passes for enlightened discourse on the right, huh? I smell a scared campaign.

The Bush-Cheney campaign released a video on its Web Site that played up some of the more strident statements Democrats have made on the campaign trail and declared: "This is not a time for pessimism and rage."
Then why do you insist on giving us so much to be pessimistic and full of rage about?

Joking aside, the Democrats, starting with Howard Dean and continuing on with Kerry, have done a remarkable job of projecting enthusiam about the future, given the crappy state of affairs Bush has left things in.

Bush, meanwhile, can't seem to open his mouth without describing the great fear we should all be in 24 hours a day.

No shit.

I got a campaign letter from Dino Rossi that is definitely written for the installed base. I was ready to write back until I realized the intended audience. (I don't know why I got the letter.)

To activate the non-thinkers, Dino's letter has zero content, just button pushing: phrases like "liberal" and "east coast" and the characterization of Dino's opposition as wealthy elites who will imminently supply their candidate with so much cash, that the reader better start writing checks yesterday.
