This one's for the ladies

We've been a bit obsessed of late about the fate of the gay boys (and girls) but Pam wisely pointed out that the whole female half of the country (and world) have plenty to worry about too. In the jeering voice of Gwen Stefani, and the interests of equal time, we offer a new category for tracking these issues: "I'm Just a Girl."

Take this pink ribbon off my eyes
I'm exposed
And it's no big surprise
Don't you think I know
Exactly where I stand
This world is forcing me
To hold your hand
'Cause I'm just a girl, little ol' me
Don't let me out of your sight
I'm just a girl, all pretty and petite
So don't let me have any rights
Oh...I've had it up to here!

You go Gwen, and all the rest of you girls, too!

And justly deserved. Anyone following the story on how Karen Hughes likened pro-choicers to terrorists? From the Washington Post article (http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A47647-2004Apr27.html)
"Asked by host Wolf Blitzer how big an issue she thought abortion would be in this year's presidential election, Hughes responded: "Well, Wolf, it's always an issue. And I frankly think it's changing somewhat. I think after September 11th the American people are valuing life more and realizing that we need policies to value the dignity and worth of every life.""

Now, frankly, my reactions to politics have me sounding like Kyle Broflovski's mom ("WHAT WHAT WHAT?"), but I think in this situation that is the appropriate response.

Let this be your daily reminder to donate to John Kerry's campaign.

Thanks Jay! I'd been watching my 'right to choose' erode, crumble, disappear (just like my right to choose a president!), and just yesterday I read a terrible story on the Beeb about a man who's accusing of killing his daughter in punishment for being raped - because hell, blame the victim. The news has been peppered with stories about how a whole generation of women have been treated with hormones for symptoms of menopause and oh, by the way, that stuff causes cancer, so we're sorry. There's loads of stuff on the market for erectile disfunction and male pattern baldness, while birth control options lag behind. So, rant, rant, rant, yeah, it WAS time.

I'm pretty sure I could whup Karen Hughes in fight, though I wouldn't trust her to fight clean, also, she might be packin' and I'm a radical member of the "you're not bringing that thing in the house, I could KILL someone with it" lobby. At any rate, I'm looking forward to the make-up tips and recipes for the coming apocolypse that this category will encourage. Thanks again. Ladies, join me in the salon for whiskey and cigars?
